Prayer of Confession

The Prayer of Confession
Of the Prophet Ezra

"Without God's blessing I look for no success, and for every success my prayer is, that all the glory may be given unto Him to whom it is properly due. If people would but give all the glory to God and regard his creatures as but unworthy instruments my heart would rejoice. Alas too frequently the praise is bestowed upon the creature. " Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson, 31 July 1862.

"Therefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And I will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. {II Corinthians 6:17-18}. We are not to copy the ways of those who have conquered and subjugated our people and nation, their customs, popular culture, nor their mannerisms. We are to become a distinct and separate people! "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and forgive their sins, and will heal their land." {II Chronicles 7:14}.

The man known to us as General Thomas J. ‘Stonewall’ Jackson and oftentimes referred to as the ‘Mighty Stonewall’ was a God Fearing Christian Gentleman, who prayed often to the Almighty God in Christ Jesus, believing fervently in the Holy Scriptures and in prayer. As he states in the afore mentioned quotation, the good general says; "Without God's blessing I look for no success, and for every success my prayer is, that all the glory may be given unto Him to whom it is properly due. If people would but give all the glory to God and regard his creatures as but unworthy instruments, my heart would rejoice. Alas too frequently the praise is bestowed upon the creature."

This same thought was given by the Prophet Ezra 457 years B.C. {Before Christ} in the below portion of scripture; let the prayer presented to us by the Prophet Ezra, become our prayer, that we might humble ourselves before the Almighty God in Christ Jesus. The Lord God is not suspended in time and has heard the prayers of our Confederate forefathers and foremothers, presented to Him in sweat, tears, blood and in their dying agony. If we will but humble ourselves before Him and seek his face, he will hear us, answer our prayers and heal our land. The Prayer of the Prophet Ezra is presented in its entirety for your inspiration!

"O my God, I am ashamed to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens. Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face as it is this day. And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the Lord our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.

For we were bondsmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolation thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem. And now O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments, Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.

Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever. And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less then our iniquities deserve, and has given us such a deliverance as this; Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest thou not be angry with us till thou hast consumed us, so that there shall be no remnant nor escaping?

O Lord God of Israel, though art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this." {Ezra 9:6-15}. Let us close with this thought, we as a separate and distinct people need to study, as concerning the Almighty God in Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. In doing so we must always have the full realization within our minds and souls that He can always be found within the pages of the Holy Scriptures. "Then said I, Lo, I come in the volume of the book it is written of me, to do thy will, O God." {Hebrews l0:7}.
